Glutathione (GSH) is a naturally occurring antioxidant made by your body from three amino acids: cysteine, glutamate, and glycine.

Because glutathione is involved in antioxidant defense, it has become an area of interest in research involving oxidative stress and chronic health conditions.

However, supplementation deserves some nuance.

Human research on oral glutathione has produced mixed results. For example, an earlier randomized controlled trial in healthy adults did not find significant changes in several oxidative-stress biomarkers after four weeks of oral glutathione supplementation.
